I don't know what is the new black anymore, but Essaouira is definitely the new Marrakech. Once seen as an alternative hideaway for artists, hippies and musicians, now it is a place where jetsetters and the bon vivant gather for their extraordinary holidays. I visited Essaouira with my children and we took surfing classes (of course!). My children still remember this being one of their favorite holidays ever. In my dreams I had visited Essaouira already a million times. I had even dreamt of starting a small bed and breakfast here, so it did feel a little like coming home when I first set foot here. It has this magical vibe and laid back atmosphere. The white city, I am coming back, I promise.
Within the walls of the medina and its total maze of little winding and narrow streets, you will find so many little shops with spices, leather, silver, ceramics and so forth. More authentic and definitely cheaper than in Marrakech. De wide empty beaches are amazing, the fish from the restaurants come straight from the ocean and the sunsets are unforgettable.
